Fabric is different from a social network because you are not following or "friending" other users. The purpose of the app is to give you the chance to see what's going on around you, in the context of your geographical area.
Using AR enables us to quickly and easily see what's up nearby using a camera view. The Pros of this are that you are always brought back to your current environment when you open the app. We say: "Look up! Find your now." Basically, AR is a bridge between you and the people around you (within a half-mile). Without AR, it's another feed and the nature of posts are dramatically different because of thee medium of communication. The Cons are the technical challenges in building the app itself. But that's all under the hood, and we've solved for those problems!
Fabric connects everyone in an area through public messaging, making it possible to see posts from the general public in your area. We hope this leads to a sense of belonging for those who use it.
